Harris Reservoir Project Information

Cal Water has completed a $9.5 million water storage tank project that, along with previously completed pump upgrades,  improves water supply reliability, increases water pressure, and enhances the system's fire-fighting capacity.

"This was a critical project because the old reservoir was no longer reliable due to structural issues.  After researching various options, we opted to construct the new reservoir inside the walls of the old reservoir because it was the approach that was the most safe, cost-effective and least disruptive to the community.  We worked closely with neighbors to the project, and we want to thank them for their patience during the construction," said Carmelo Sorce, who was Lead Engineer on the project and who now serves as Acting District Manager for the Westlake District.

Cal Water is regulated by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), which sets water rates.  The CPUC supported the project during the 2009 General Rate Case and authorized Cal Water to request a water rate adjustment when the project was completed.  The water rate adjustment is expected to increase the average customer's bill by 9.6% and take effect before the end of 2011.

"In an effort to minimize the rate impact, we worked hard to control costs and came in significantly under budget. We are always focused on keeping costs down and rates reasonable while making the water system improvements that are necessary for water quality and reliability," Sorce said.
