Reassuring Chico and Oroville Residents of Water Quality

NoticiasAfter neighboring towns issued do-not-drink advisories due to effects from the Camp Fire, Cal Water took steps to reassure its customers in Chico and Oroville that local water quality was not impacted and the water remains safe to use and drink.

Residents in Chico and Oroville began contacting Cal Water after hearing about water quality issues in other towns impacted by the fire. Cal Water District Manager George Barber said Friday that the current issues being experienced elsewhere are due to fire damage to the pipes that transport the water in those systems; however, because the fire did not reach Cal Water's Chico nor Oroville service areas, the local systems were not affected.

“Protecting our customers' health and safety is our highest priority, and beyond the assurance that this devastating fire did not touch our local infrastructure, we also have a robust water quality monitoring program that confirms the water continues to meet all federal and state standards,” Barber said.
