The project, which is expected to take approximately 12 weeks, includes the installation of about 3,600 feet of new 12-inch ductile iron and 8-inch PVC water main, as well as new, 1-inch individual water services. Crews will also install four new fire hydrants as part of the project. Installation will take place near Juniper Serra High School on West 20th Avenue, from La Salle Drive to O'Farrell Street and along Gymkhana Road, Edinburgh Street, and Spuraway Drive.

"These improvements are an example of our ongoing commitment to proactively upgrade our water infrastructure, so we can fulfill our promise to deliver quality, service, and value to our customers," said District Manager Ross Moilan. "This strategic investment in our water system will help protect against leaks, ensure we can continue to deliver safe, high-quality drinking water, and provide fire protection to San Mateo residents and businesses, both now and for decades to come."

Crews will make every effort to minimize traffic delays during construction, which is being performed Monday through Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. After construction is completed, crews will conduct water quality testing before connecting individual services lines to the new water main and restore all streets, sod, and landscaping impacted by the construction.

Crews must temporarily interrupt water service for one to two hours while individual services are connected to the new water main and put into service. Residents will be notified in advance of any planned shutdowns, which are normally scheduled between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
