The project, which is expected to be completed in mid-January, includes the installation of 1,800 feet of new 12-inch ductile iron water main. Crews will also install four new fire hydrants and 16 new individual service connections. Installation is taking place on Tulare Avenue, from Bridge Street to Liberty Street, and on Santa Fe Street, from Laurel Avenue to south of Tulare Avenue. This project is being completed in conjunction with the city's intersection improvement project which is slated for completion in 2020.

"These improvements will help protect against leaks and ensure safe and reliable water service for our Visalia customers for many years to come. Firefighters will also benefit from improved water flow, which will enhance their ability to protect the community in the event of an emergency," said District Manager Tammy Kelly. "This proactive, strategic investment in our infrastructure is part of our promise to deliver quality, service, and value to Visalia residents and businesses."

Crews are making every effort to minimize traffic delays during construction, which is scheduled for Monday through Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. After construction is completed, crews will conduct water quality testing and connect individual service lines to the new water main. Water service may be temporarily interrupted for one to two hours while crews connect individual services to the new water mains and put them into service. Residents will be notified in advance of any planned shutdowns, which are normally scheduled between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Crews will also restore all streets, sod, and landscaping impacted by the construction.
