The project, which is expected to be completed in mid-December, includes the installation of 1,950 feet of new 6-inch PVC water main on two streets. Installation will take place on Caylor Street, from Lester Street to Belle Terrace, and on Shamrock Way, from South Oleander Avenue to South H Street. Crews will also install one new fire hydrant and replace one existing fire hydrant as part of the project.
"This important infrastructure upgrade will enable us to continue to deliver a reliable supply of safe, high-quality drinking water to our customers, both now and for years to come. Additionally, it will help first responders protect the community in the event of an emergency," said District Manager Geoff Fulks. "This project is the latest example of our commitment to deliver quality, service, and value to Bakersfield residents and businesses."
Crews will make every effort to minimize traffic delays during construction, which will be performed Monday through Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Following installation, crews will conduct water quality testing and connect individual service lines to the new water main. During this time, water service will be temporarily interrupted for one to two hours as crews connect customers' service lines to the main. Cal Water will notify residents in advance of any planned shutdowns, which are normally scheduled between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Crews will also restore all streets, sod, and landscaping impacted by the construction.
