The project, which is expected to take six weeks to complete, includes the installation of 2,400 feet of new 8-inch PVC water main and the replacement of 79 individual customer service connections. Crews will also install three new fire hydrants as part of the project. Installation will take place on Eighth Avenue, from Edison Way to Middlefield Road.
"Our promise is to deliver quality, service, and value to residents and businesses in our Bear Gulch District. Important infrastructure upgrades such as this project make that possible," said District Manager Dawn Smithson. "This proactive upgrade will enable us to continue to deliver a reliable supply of safe, high-quality drinking water to our customers, both now and for many years to come. Additionally, it will help first responders better protect the community in the event of an emergency."
Crews will make every effort to minimize traffic delays during construction, which will be performed Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Following installation, crews will conduct water quality testing and connect existing individual customer service lines to the new water main. Cal Water does not expect any service interruptions while connecting customers' service lines to the new main.
