The project, which is expected to take two months to complete, includes the installation of 775 feet of new PVC water main along Prairie Avenue, from Rosecrans Avenue to West El Segundo Boulevard. Crews will also install 10 new fire hydrants and approximately 50 new individual customer service connections.
"Cal Water crews are committed to providing Hawthorne residents and businesses a reliable supply of safe, high-quality water, both now and for generations to come. This infrastructure upgrade will also ensure first responders have the water they need to protect the community in an emergency," said District Manager Dan Armendariz. "Proactive infrastructure upgrades such as this project are an important part of our promise to deliver quality, service, and value to our customers."
The work is being performed Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., during which time crews will work to minimize any related traffic delays. Following installation, Cal Water will conduct water quality testing before connecting individual customer service connections to the new water main. Residents will be notified in advance of any planned shutdowns, which are normally scheduled between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. All streets, sod, and landscaping impacted by the construction will be restored to as close to the previous condition as possible.
