The project, which began this week and is expected to be completed in six weeks, includes the installation of 2,938 feet of new 8-inch and 6-inch PVC water main and the replacement of 58 individual service connections. Installation will take place on Swaner Avenue, from Santa Rita Street to Van Buren Avenue, and on Swaner Circle, Jackson Circle, and Garfield Circle. Crews will also install one new fire hydrant and replace four existing fire hydrants as part of the project.
"This important infrastructure upgrade will enable us to continue to deliver a reliable supply of safe, high-quality drinking water to our customers every day, both now and for years to come. Additionally, it will help first responders protect the community in an emergency," said District Manager Brenda Granillo. "Proactive upgrades such as this are critical to our promise to deliver quality, service, and value to Salinas residents and businesses."
Crews will make every effort to minimize traffic delays during construction, which will be performed Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Following installation, crews will conduct water quality testing and connect individual service lines to the new water main. Water service will be temporarily interrupted for one to two hours as crews connect customers' service lines to the main; however, Cal Water will notify residents in advance of any planned shutdowns, which are normally scheduled between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Crews will also restore all streets, sod, and landscaping impacted by the construction.
