The project, which began this week, includes the installation of 3,100 feet of new 8-inch PVC water main and 38 new individual service connections. Crews will also install seven new fire hydrants to improve access for firefighters. Construction will take place near Cupertino High School on South Tantau Avenue, between Stevens Creek Boulevard and Tilson Avenue.

"As essential service workers, our crews work hard every day to deliver quality, service, and value to our customers," said District Manager Ron Richardson. "This important infrastructure upgrade will enable us to keep delivering the reliable supply of safe, high-quality water that Cupertino residents and businesses count on for their drinking, cooking, handwashing, and other household needs. Additionally, it will ensure first responders have the water they need to protect the community in an emergency."

Crews will make every effort to minimize traffic delays during construction, which will be performed Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Crews will also minimize any temporary service interruptions so that residents continue to have the water they need during this time. Residents will be notified in advance of any planned shutdowns, which are normally scheduled during regular work hours.

Following installation, crews will conduct water quality testing before connecting existing individual customer service lines to the new water main. Crews will also restore all streets, sod, and landscaping impacted by the construction.
