The project, which is expected to be completed in August, includes the installation of 4,100 feet of new 4-, 6-, and 8-inch PVC water main. The current, aging 4- and 2-inch pipes were installed more than 65 years ago. Crews will also install five new fire hydrants to improve emergency water access for firefighters. Installation will take place on Dolores Street, from Haley Street to Beale Avenue, and on Eureka Street, from Gage Avenue to Beale Avenue.

"This important infrastructure upgrade will enable us to keep delivering a reliable supply of safe, high-quality water to our customers for their drinking, cooking, handwashing, and other household needs, both now and for many years to come," said District Manager Tammy Johnson. "With the larger pipe diameter, this area will also benefit from an increase in water flow, which will help first responders protect the community in an emergency."

Crews will make every effort to minimize traffic delays during construction, which will be performed Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Crews will also work to minimize any temporary service interruptions so that residents continue to have the water they need during this time. Residents will be notified in advance of any planned shutdowns, which are normally scheduled between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Following installation, crews will conduct water quality testing before connecting existing individual customer service lines to the new water main. Crews will also restore all streets, sod, and landscaping impacted by the construction.
