Cal Water news release

The project, which comes on the heels of completing another local water system upgrade, will ensure local customers and firefighters continue to have water for their everyday needs and in an emergency.

Cal Water will replace 2,950 feet of aging 4-, 5-, and 6-inch steel and AC water mains with 6- and 8-inch PVC pipe, as the existing main is aging and becoming less reliable. Installation will take place on Los Robles Avenue, from 3rd Street to 6th Street, and on Broadway Avenue, from 4th Street to 6th Street. Additionally, the utility plans to replace three fire hydrants and 38 individual customer service connections from the main, and move the mainline location away from the alleyway. The project is expected to be completed by September 2022.

Crews will make every effort to minimize traffic delays during construction, which will be performed Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Crews will also minimize any temporary service interruptions required by installing new valves to limit the impact of the shutdowns. Customers will be notified in advance of any planned, temporary shutdowns.

Last week, Cal Water finished the installation of 2,530 feet of 6- and 8-inch PVC pipe, replaced 37 individual customer connections, and installed four new fire hydrants on Capay Avenue, 3rd Street, 5th Street, and the surrounding alleys.

"These important infrastructure upgrades will enable us to keep delivering the reliable supply of safe, clean water that our Hamilton City customers count on every day," said District Manager Evan Markey. "We look forward to providing even greater fire protection, enhanced water quality, and stronger water system reliability to our community, both now and for generations to come."
